Where to Buy and Sell

Buying and selling bullion can be as easy as finding a local retailer in your area. Some may not have this option and may have to find alternatives locally or online. Below are the most common ways you can find bullion.

Buy Local

Buying local is typically ideal for most people. You can typically get a discount paying in cash and walk out with your bullion in hand. There are a few options for this.

Local coin store

A local coin store will not only have a Sigma verifier (So you know what you’re buying isn’t counterfeit), but you can usually build a rapport with the owner and employees, and possibly get better deals in the future.

Antique Store

If you don’t have a local coin store, sometimes antique stores will have old silver coins available for purchase.

Swap Meets, Flea Markets and Garage/Estate Sales

Swap meets and flea markets aren’t as ideal, since you typically have no way to check for authenticity. The same can be said for garage and estate sales, although you’re less likely to run into counterfeits at these. If you don’t have a way to test the items in question, your best option is to stick to easily recognizable coins with no collector value (Example: 1964 and older silver US quarters, dimes and half dollars).

Buy Online

If none of these options are available to you, or you simply don’t have the time to drive around to multiple locations, buying online is going to be the most efficient option for you. Fortunately most online retailers offer free shipping if you buy $199 or more.

You can get a discount if you’re paying with check, e-check or bank wire. You will have to wait longer for payment to clear, so if time is a factor you can pay more with a card and have it shipped to you sooner.

Below are some of the most reputable online bullion dealers.

NOTE: This website makes a small commission on any purchases made through the links listed below.

APMEX (American Precious Metals Exchange)

APMEX has the largest selection. They also are one of the more expensive, but if you’re looking for something less common, they’ll most likely have it.

SD Bullion

SD Bullion’s selection isn’t as diverse, but they have some of the best prices and sales.

Silver Gold Bull

Like SD Bullion, their selection can be less diverse at times, but they have excellent prices. You will find unbeatable deals when they are having a sale. The link in the title takes you to a special deals page you won’t find advertised publicly except in smaller bullion stacker circles.
